Walter Doncourt Begley September 16, 1962 – May 22, 2025 Walter Doncourt Begley, age 62 years, longtime resident of the White Mountain area died unexpectedly from a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Born on September 16, 1962, in Middletown, New Jersey, son of the late Hugh Begley and Ann Begley (Doncourt), Walter had resided in Middletown NJ, until moving to the White Mountain area approximately 30 years ago, joining his parents in the area after they opened the Buttonwood Inn in North Conway. Walter attended Middletown area schools graduating from Middletown High School North in 1981. He furthered his education at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, PA, fascinated by landscape architecture and design. Walter was predominantly self-taught, diligently understanding each plant and flower’s name and ways to beautify areas. Walter loved local flower shows and traveling to Amsterdam for the annual tulip show. Many clients have decks, waterfalls, walkways, and flower beds designed by Walter Begley Landscaping. Although a more quiet, reserved teenager, Walter spent many years on the swim team for Ship Ahoy Beach Club in Sea Bright on the Jersey Shore, was a Boy Scout, and played the piano. He also was a volunteer member of the Middletown Fire Department. As the 4th son in a family of 5 children, family vacations were centered on skiing and camping trips, summers at the Jersey Shore, and large family gatherings at Candlewood Lake in Connecticut with all the aunts, uncles, and cousins. Walter also enjoyed sailing off the coast of Maine to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket with friends and traveling to update New York to a friend’s farm. In addition, he would travel to the Stowe Country Store in Maine at least once a month, to indulge in his favorite food: macaroni and cheese. A devoted Mercedes Benz fan, Walter spoke incessantly of his love for the car he wanted to restore, fondly named “Edith”. Every conversation he would find a way to let you know the status of the restoration. Walter was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Begley in 2002. Surviving are his mother, Ann Begley of North Conway, brothers Jim (wife Robyn), Tim (wife Elizabeth), Paul, and sister Ellen Begley. His nephews and nieces: Chris (wife Aby) and their children Remy and Riley, Marisa Scibilia (husband Mike) and their children Michael and Matthew, Jessica (husband Josh) and their children Ansley, Jordan, Gwen, & Charlie, Cristin Kline (husband Brian) and their children Callan and Sienna, Matt (wife Brittany) and their children Soden and Aspen, also Michael Begley, Jesse Foran, Emily Foran, Laura Foran Seegulam (husband Andrew) and their children Olivia, Wyatt & Ivy, and Jack Foran Jr (wife Natalie).
