Victor Smith Obituary

Victor B. Smith passed away on April 15, 2026 and took that final journey through the Pearly Gates of Heaven to be with his ancestors. Born January 23, 1931, the son of late Frank Joseph and Josephine Eva (Grandchamp) Smith, will be laid to rest in the Conway Cemetery near his parents. Victor first attended West Side School until it burned in April of 1942 and then transferred to Conway Village Grammar School when he was in the fifth grade. He completed his education, graduating from Kennett High School in 1949. Victor entered the U.S. Navy in July 1950, and took his basic training in San Diego, California. Upon completion of his training, he was transferred to Pearl Harbor to serve aboard the USS Carpenter DDE 825 for 2 years before being transferred to Adak, Alaska to serve at the Navy Radio Station where he was a radio operator. During his tour aboard the USS Carpenter, he entered the war zone off the coast of Korea for 6 months before returning to Pearl Harbor. Before his leaving the ship, it was assigned to Eniwtok Testing area in the South Pacific where Victor witnesses the first test of the first Hydrogen Bomb. Victor spent most of his adult life living in Southern California where he married Josephine Baker and fostered a daughter. During his living in southern California, he was a cabinet maker, also worked for a flooring company, and was a Reserve Police Officer for the city of San Clemente, and a locksmith. Victor was a Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post of North Conway, NH, and a lifetime member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association. He had a strong feeling for the rights afforded by the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. In 1988, Victor returned to his place of birth, Conway, NH, where he worked as a cabinet maker until his retirement. In 2003, he moved to Bristol, VA to spend his remaining years in leisure. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Josephine Smith; his wife, Kimberly Marie Smith; and his youngest sister, Faye Jaeger. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Johnson Smith and husband David of Elizabethton, TN; his three sisters, Joyce Jenkins Ferris, Nancy Smith and Phyllis Breeden.
