Sunni was born on a sunny day in April of 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to Jeanne and John McKay. She passed away at Memorial Hospital, North Conway, New Hampshire on July 27, 2024. Sunni grew up in southwest Detroit attending Catholic schools, graduating from St. Gabriel High School in 1968. She was a cheerleader and champion swimmer. Always wanting to be in law enforcement, Sunni joined the Michigan State Police in 1978, but her career was cut short in 1990 after a fight with a prisoner resulted in three back surgeries. In 1991 she moved, with her husband Ralph, to Eaton, New Hampshire. She always had dogs and cats and probably knew the name of every dog in Carroll county. Sunni was an accomplished cook and hostess. She had St. Anthony's Feasts, haunted barns, Christmas parties, and Punkin Chunkin'. She and Ralph ran the Eaton Fourth of July Picnic at the town beach for 24 years. She was Eaton's Supervisor of the Checklist for years. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; son, William; sister, Connie; and brother, Robby; along with many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Arrangements were made through Furber Funeral Home and Cremation Services. There will be no services. Sunni's ashes will be scattered among the ashes of her pets at Moose Track Pond Campground. A Celebration of Life will happen in late summer or early autumn. In lieu of flowers please pray for the safely of all on-duty police officers.
