Obituary

Scott Brian Hayman, 57, of Albany, NH, passed away on July 19, 2023 after a 12 year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Scott was born on August 16, 1965 in Norwood, MA. Scott grew up in a loving home with his father, who unfortunately passed early in his life, his mother who also recently passed, and his brother. In his early years Scott loved playing/coaching hockey, causing a ruckus, and attending as many Grateful Dead concerts as he could. Irish, ginger, Deadhead, NE sports fan, cribbage player, music lover, great teacher, excellent colleague, devoted Dad, good friend, and a real warrior are all accurate descriptors of Scott. Scott joined the military in 1983 and was promoted to staff Sargent. He continued to serve his country until 1997 in the 1st battalion 182nd infantry. During his time serving Scott graduated from UMass Dartmouth and began his true journey, teaching. He started off at the Fisher School in Walpole, MA. In 1990 he moved to the K. A Brett School in Tamworth, NH. His love for teaching and his passion for inspiring young minds continued right up until the day he passed. He taught for 34 years at the Brett School and was not ready to retire just yet. Scott was known for starting every class with a song and was always quick to teach a lesson through the lyrics. He approached each day with a smile on his face and was always ready to take on whatever challenges he faced both inside and outside of the classroom. Scott was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2011 where he continued to teach during intensive treatments. In 2012 he received a stem cell transplant and immediately returned to school which is where he always wanted to be; his happy place. Scott loved playing the guitar, the Bodhrán, golfing, driving in his truck even if he had no destination, and he might have enjoyed a beer or two at Almost There or the Legion along with a game of cribbage after a good days work. Scott was an outstanding teacher but an even better father. His two daughters were the light of his life and his motivation to keep fighting right up until the last second. He instilled his love of music, hunting, knowledge, and courageous attitude in his girls. Scott is survived and will be missed immensely by his daughters, Keili, Meghan and her husband Axel; His beloved dog, Rascal; and his brother, Paul Hayman of Walpole, MA. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins of the Hayman family; close friends, students, and all people who knew and loved him for the special gift he was. As Hunter Thompson said, "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’” Scott has most definitely took this ride. A wake is planned for Scott on Thursday, July 27th at Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway, NH from 4-6pm.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
