Obituary


Roy Edward Hansen, 86, died December 17, 2009 after several years of declining health. He had been lovingly, cared for the past two years by the staff at Merriman House, North Conway and his doctor, David Riss and Robert Tilney.

Roy was born May 2, 1923 in Boston, MA the only child of Bernard and Mabel (Clark) Hansen. He grew up in the Mattapan area of Boston graduating from Hyde Path High School, Boston, in 1940. He than began working as a draftsman for Clifford Manufacturing Co, Boston, MA. Until going into the US Navy (Naval air cadet program) in 1943 until 1945 at WWII end. Retuning to civilian life he returned to his job at Clifford's and later Thayer Scale, Cohasset, MA and retiring in December 1986 as a design engineer from Pneumatic Scale Corp. of Quincy, MA after 27 years of service.

After retiring he moved from his home in Forrest Park South Weymouth, MA to his retirement home in Interval, February, 1987, where he enjoyed skiing and golf. He had been a member of both North Conway Country Club and Wentworth Golf Club.

Roy was a 46 year member of the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge and a 40 year member of North Conway American Legion Post 95.

Roy was predeceased by his parents and his first wife of 23 years, Edyth (Canning) Hansen. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Verna (McCoy) Hansen, stepdaughter Patricia Kulich and her husband David of Grove City, Ohio, granddaughter Suzanne Watters and husband Jamie, Maybeth, Motasem and Husband Shadi, Jessica James and husband Brett and eight step great grand children of Ohio. Roy is also survived by his beloved nephew Robert Griffin and wife Susan of Jefferson, NH. As he had requested there will be no services, burial will take place in the spring with a celebration of his life to follow with friends and family. In lieu of flowers donations to North Conway Humane Society or Gibson Center for Senior Services.
