Ronald Kenneth Moore passed away at the age of 80 on September 16th at his home in Chocorua, NH. Born February 7th, 1945, Ronald was an only child of the late Kenneth K. Moore and the late Mildred N. Moore. Ron’s father, Ken, was quite an extraordinary gentleman. He and his family were Chocorua natives, he was a successful track athlete in his youth, and he was the caretaker for the Moir family property in Chocorua for nearly 50 years, a job which Ron took over and held for over 40 years. Ron’s mother, Mildred, extraordinary in her own rights, came to New Hampshire in her teens from Billerica, Massachusetts as a nanny for the Taylor family. She went on to work for numerous families on Washington Hill Road in Chocorua throughout her life. Ron attended local schools and graduated from Kennett High School in Conway with the class of 1963. Ron attended Keene State College, grew disenchanted, and decided to enlist in the US Navy from 1967 to 1970. He served at NAS Whidbey Island in Washington State, NAF Atsugi- Japan, NOB Subic- Philippines, and served a few years aboard USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA – 31), an aircraft carrier in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Ron went on to complete his education. He went on to NHTI and Plymouth State where he received his associate and bachelor degrees in business. Ron then went on to teach distributive education (business) at Spalding high school for one year. In 1978 Ron started umpiring softball and baseball games, an avocation he mostly enjoyed, venturing as far north as Montreal, Canada, and as far south as Boston, Massachusetts, as far west as Cooperstown, New York, and as far east as coastal towns in Maine. He was also a volunteer line judge for the Volvo tennis tournament for two summers. Ron also worked at the North Conway post office for 32+ years. Ron is survived by his wife—the love of his life and faithful companion—Heidi (Johnson) Moore, his daughters, LaurieBeth Fowler in southern Maine, Vikki Corbridge, and Michelle Johnson, both in New Hampshire, his grandchildren Savannah Fowler, Amie Fowler, Riley Corbridge, Maisie Corbridge, Benjamin Johnson, and Addison Johnson, and one great grandson, Dakota Fowler. —To quote Willie Nelson: Heidi was “his lover, wife, nurse, doctor, bodyguard”.
