Richard Whyte Obituary

Richard Allan Whyte, 89, passed away July 16, 2024 at his home in Center Conway, NH. Dick was a family man who enjoyed life with his wife, Elaine (Bransfield) for 72 years, his doggie “Whytie”, 4 children; Rick and wife Meghan, Suzanne and husband Gary Munroe, Doug and wife Kim, Judy and husband Dave Perry, 9 Grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Geneva, his 2 brothers, and sister. Dick grew up in Nahant, MA. He spent summers as a young boy at Camp Boycroft in Wolfeboro NH, graduated High School from Beverly High School in 1954, and joined the Marines the following Fall. He served as a “Seagoing Marine” aboard the U.S.S. Worcester for an eighteen-month tour of the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Far East. He was discharged in September of 1956 and married Elaine Bransfield in November. During the next several years while raising a family he attended night school earning an Associate Degree in Business from Merrimac College. His first job was with Raytheon in the Hawk Missile System Development Department and as he worked his way up the “Professional Ladder” there were several job and residence changes. In 1977 while at BIF/Masoneilan in RI, he attended Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. In 1988 he bought Bullard Abrasives, refurbished the plant and successfully developed it into a lucrative business. He was an avid shooter, member of the NRA, collector and member of Antique Car and Wooden Boat Clubs. He won many trophies with his favorite prized British Green Jaguar. At age 80 years old, he ran his f inal hydroplane Grand-Pre race in Tavares FL., celebrated by his racing community and family. He will be missed by many family, friends and business associates. Arrangements were made Through Furber Funeral home and Cremation Services. A burial service will be held at the Center Conway Cemetery at a future date.
