Richard G. White, 90, of Madison died November 7, 2012 at his home. Born in Lynn, MA, the son of Walter G. and Estella (Wiggin) White, he grew up in Tamworth, Ossipee and Concord where he graduated from High School. He attended UNH, and then joined the army in 1942. He served in Europe in the 10th Armored Division under General Patton. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of some concentration camps.
After his discharge in 1946, he attended the New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming, graduating in 1949. He then established the White Funeral home in Conway, which he ran until his retirement in 1986.
He was seventy-year member of the Ossipee Valley Lodge, No. 74, F. &. A. M. He was a past-president of the Simadi Shrine Club, a past president of the Conway Rotary Club, and its last surviving member. He was in Rotary for 62 years and was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship.
Richard was on the Board of Directors of YMCA Camp Huckins, a founding member of the Pequawket Foundation, a past president of the Board of Directors of Carroll County Trust Company and also a member of the National Selected Morticians.
He had a love of woodworking and his handcrafted wooden bowls were much admired. He played cards and enjoyed the competition and camaraderie of several local card-playing groups.
In 1950, he married Golden May and was predeceased by her in 2001. His family includes his daughter, Cynthia Spencer and her husband James of Ossipee; two granddaughters, Valerie Custeau and her husband Eli of Wolfeboro, Rebecca Spencer and her partner Jeremy Friesen of Aurora, CO., and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Conway Village Congregational Church with the Rev. Martell Spagnolo, pastor, officiating. Visiting hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. during v
