Richard Delisle Stuart,80, of Hale's Location, NH, passed away on May 7, 2012 at Kindred Hospital, Boston, MA. Mr. Stuart was born July 7, 1931 in Watertown, MA. to John Delisle Stuart (of Nova Scotia) and Marie Catherine Walter (of Germany).
He is the husband of Theresa M. Smith and formerly the husband of Patricia A. Stuart.
From Watertown, the family moved to Arlington, MA. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1949, he served in the 103rd USAF Reserve Unit 1951 to 1953 with honorable discharge. He continued his education at Northeastern University, Boston MA, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1958 and, Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1967.
Mr. Stuart held senior and managerial positions with several major Boston engineering firms into the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's where he was directly responsible for the design of numerous wastewater treatment, water distribution and highway projects throughout the New England region. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Rhode Island.
In the 1990's and beyond he continued his career as a professional consultant to engineering and construction firms as well as providing engineering services through private practice. In 2007 he retired from Quincy, MA and moved to New Hampshire.
He was a member of Boston Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, New England Water Works Association, New England Water Pollution Control Assoc.
Alongside his professional career, his love of nature and outdoor sports were evident by his favorite pastimes, as an avid hunter and angler. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife Theresa Smith of Hale's Location, NH, and first wife Patricia Stuart of Stoneham, MA; his son Francis R. Stuart and wife Audrey of Acton, MA; his brother, Paul A. Stuart and wife Corinne of Plymouth, MA and nephews and nieces Michael, Catherine, Paul
