Paul George Buswell, 80, of North Conway passed away surrounded by family and friends on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Maine Medical Center following a long illness.
Paul was born to Pauline Warren and Ellis Buswell on June 27, 1930 in Wolfeboro, NH. His wife Mary R. Buswell and a brother, Warren Buswell, predeceased him. He leaves behind two brothers, David Buswell of Freedom, NH & Gordon Buswell of Arizona City, AZ and a sister Elinor Pater of Eaton, NH; two daughters, Paula Tibbetts of Vernon, CT; Arlene Buswell of Fryeburg, ME and her long time companion Merle Johnson; a son Barry Buswell of Barre, VT; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gorham and her husband Adam of Center Conway, NH and Melissa Sidoti and her husband Tom of Madison, NH; Three great granddaughters brought joy to his life, Samantha (aka the boss) and Isabella Sidoti and Jeweliana Gorham. Also left behind are his beloved Springer Spaniel Sydney and his cat Louise.
Paul enlisted in the Army in 1947 when he was 17 and served our country in the Korean War from 1950-1951. He was a decorated expert rifle sergeant in combat, a Purple Heart recipient and a part of the Chinese Intervention Campaign. He was attached to the 7th Infantry Division (1948-1949) and the 2nd Infantry Division (Indianhead Division, 1950-51), B Company, 23rd Infantry.
Throughout his life he held a variety of jobs that gave him content for the wonderful way he told stories. He was employed by Merrill Transport Tanker Division, Crawford Allen-Contractor, Hub Fruit, Aubuchon Hardware, Porter Office Machines, Hannes Schneider Corp., Abbott's Dairy, Persons Concrete, State of NH Department of Safety Water Patrol, Milliken's Mobil, Salta Tire and the Town of Conway Highway Department.
Paul was a member of the American Legion, Post 95, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Horse Rescue League, AMC, Garden Trail Club, the Audubon Society and a member of the Fish & Game Club. Paul enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life and was always w
