Patricia Ann Shackford

Patricia Ann “Patty” Shackford, 90, of Madison, NH passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 16, 2023. Patty was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and was the only daughter of Fred and Mildred Frost. She attended school at the Nickerson schoolhouse in Madison, NH. She attended Madison High School before transferring to Kennett High School, graduating the class of 1950. She grew up on the Frost Farm on East Madison Rd, where she lived most of her life, before making the arduous journey all the way across the street to her new house in 1999. Patty worked for A&P Grocery in the Conway Marketplace, before driving a school bus in Madison for several years. Patty then worked for the Madison Post Office for over twenty years, serving as the postmaster. After her retirement from the post office, Patty worked at Purity Springs Resort until she ultimately decided that a life of adventures that included skiing, motorcycle rides with strangers, dump truck rides with her son and four-wheeler rides to camp with her grandson were more of her cup of tea. Patty loved to read while enjoying the view of the mountains from her house. She enjoyed a funny, raunchy greeting card, (which she would happily receive or hand out), that would spur a laugh that was both distinctive and infectious. Patty loved people, and welcomed visitors to her home. Often, she would say that she “never met a stranger”. She would bake her famous rolls for church suppers, funerals and any family gathering. She enjoyed hosting gatherings such as a coffee hour for friends, and holiday dinners with her cherished family, as Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. Stories of Patty’s antics, such as nearly setting a mailbox on fire after ditching a cigarette into it to avoid getting caught by her grandson, are plentiful and a testament to her character. Patty leaves behind her sons, Loren and his wife Roberta, Fred and his wife Karen, Paul and his wife Kathy-Jo. Her grandsons Tony, Seth and partner Hailey, Isaak and fiancé Aysia, Orion and his partner Cynthia, as well as Josh and his wife Linda, granddaughters Amanda, Shayna and her fiancé Ben, Amy and her wife Katie. Her great-grandsons Joshua and his wife Taylor, Zachery and his wife Christina, great-grandchildren Cedric, Josephine Ann, Cora, Emmalena, and a great-great granddaughter, Caroline. She also leaves behind uncountable nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and outlaws. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 22nd from 4-6pm, at Furber Funeral Home in North Conway. Funeral will be at the Madison Church on Friday, June 23rd at 10am, followed by a graveside service at the Gilman Cemetery.
