Owen K. Haley, 90, of Conway died Monday May 3, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital. Born in North Conway, the son of Fred and Susie (Clifford) Haley, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Haley had worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad for several years as a night watchman, he worked for the former Jenny Service Station in North Conway which was owned by Chester W. Jenness and he worked for William G. Duprey & son for several years. Owen also owned and operated a trucking business, he also owned and operated the former Owens Service Station in North Conway from 1953 to 1968 and prior to retiring he was a real estate agent for several years.
He had been a member of the Eastern Slope Lodge # 2055 B.P.O.E. since 1957, a Past Exalted Ruler three times and District Grand Exalted Ruler for New Hampshire North from 1975 to 1976. Owen was also an honorary member of the North Conway Fire Department, retiring as First Deputy Chief, a member of Mt. Washington Lodge # 87 F & AM in North Conway and a member of Bektash Temple.
The family includes two sons, Arthur O. Haley of Bokeelia, FL and George C. "Scrubby" Haley of North Conway; a daughter, Ellen R. Haley of North Conway; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Elmer C. Haley of North Conway, a sister, Alice Poor of Kenduskeag, ME and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the First Church of Christ Congregational in North Conway. Burial will be in the North Conway Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday May 4, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
