CMSGT (Ret) Norman P. Van Wickler "SARGE" of Madison, NH died at home on Good Friday April 6th, 2012. He was 90 years old.
Sarge entered the Army / Air Corps when he was 19 years old. Sarge was with the 19thBomb Group of the 8th Air force during WWII and served in England, France and Germany. Sarge was involved with B17 Bombers and was one of the troops aboard a glider during the raid on Wessell Germany. Sarge was also involved in the Nuremburg raid and involved in the D-Day invasion. After the War Sarge worked with the Atomic Energy Commission. Sarge's 26-year military career took him around the world where he then retired at Pease AFB in 1969 having received several medals, awards and citations.
In retirement Sarge served as the District Chaplain for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8270 and also Chaplain of the American Legion Post 46 in Conway, NH. He was also a member of the "Grey Eagles" of North Conway.
Sarge is survived by his wife Florence R. Van Wickler (Beaulac) who would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 21st. Sarges's family includes his sons Richard N. Van Wickler of Stoddard, NH, Peter J. Van Wickler of Greenwood Village, CO, George Lucier of Southwick, MA and Robert Lucier of Waterbury, VT. and his sister Linda Panner of Broken Arrow, OK. Sarge also leaves four grandchildren and two great grand children.
Funeral Services to celebrate Norman's life will be at the Madison Church at 1100 AM on Friday 13 April followed by a Military Ceremony for Sarge at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at 300 PM on Friday 13 April 2012.
Sarge has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations are made to the Madison Church in his memory - 53 Conway Rd. Madison, NH 03849. The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
