Nancy L. Smith, 87, of West Side Road, surrounded by her family, died on April 29, 2026, after a long illness. Born in North Conway to F. Joseph & Josephine Smith, Nancy lived her entire life in the Mt. Washington Valley. Nancy was a strong advocate for the rights of the developmentally disabled. In 1969 she was one of the first officers of the Conway Regional Association for Retarded Children, Inc. (C.R.A.R.C.) This group worked tirelessly to establish standards and programs for people in the Valley with disabilities. The group was instrumental in establishing the Center of Hope, currently known as Northern Human Services. Nancy enjoyed laughing with family and friends. For many years she hosted epic Halloween parties and family reunions at her home. Her main hobby was gardening. She had so many beautiful gardens! She also enjoyed scrapbooking, wreath making, and spending time with her fur babies Bentley & Benji. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the team from Home Care Pros for the excellent care they provided. We would especially like to thank Lisa Napodano and Sue Parmenter, her primary caregivers. Nancy is survived by: Her husband Robert D. Smith, son Keith Smith and his wife Ann Souza, and daughter Kimberly Cavanaugh. Seven grandchildren: Autumn Maura, Jessica Maura, Christine Cavanaugh, Melissa and her husband Troy Emerson, Jacob Smith and his wife Meghan O’Leary, Eric and his wife Kayla Smith, and Carmen Maura. Six Great Grandchildren: Kierra Maura, Lucas Emerson, Camille Emerson, Ethan Emerson, Hunter Eckert, and Bailey O’Leary-Smith. Siblings Joyce Ferris and Phyllis Breeden, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by: Her first husband Theodore Smith, daughter Teresa Maura, son Travis Smith, sister Faye Jaeger, and brother Victor Smith. The Rev. Mary Edes will officiate the service scheduled for 3PM on Tuesday June 9, 2026 at the Conway Village Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Smith Residence 1478 West Side Road, Conway NH
