Nancy Gay Browne, 81, of Chocorua died April 8, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut on the 13th of September, 1928, she was the only child of Harry W. and Elizabeth T. (Sargent) Highriter.
She lived in Highland Park, IL, Cambridge, MA and Acton, MA before moving to Chocorua in 1977. After earning a BA in Psychology from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, she worked for Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration as a clerk-typist. On the 31st May of 1952, she was married to Percy Corbett Browne, with whom she shared a happy marriage until his death parted them on the 1st of April, 1992.
They were blessed with 3 children Katharine W. (Kit), and her husband Randolph N. Pike of South Portland, MA and giving them grandchildren Sarah, Laura (married to Joshua LaRock), and Joanna, Cynthia T. (Cindy), and her husband Thompson Atwood of Standish, ME; and Christopher C. (Chris), and his wife Isabelle Cooper of Chicago, IL and giving them grandchildren Joshua and Rebecca.
Following a period as full-time mother, Nancy worked for the Town of Acton Massachusetts, first in the highway department and later in the High School guidance department. After relocating to New Hampshire she worked for the Carroll Country Extension Service with her clerical and bookkeeping skills. She filled retirement with many volunteer deeds for church and community. Throughout all this, she always found ways to further the job with her artistic skills.
A memorial service will be held Monday April 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Chocorua Community Church in Chocorua. Burial will be in the Chocorua Cemetery later in the spring. There will be no visiting hours.
The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
