• Mary Rita (Deschaine) Madore On May 14, 2024, Rita passed away peacefully at age 77. Rita was the daughter of Lezime and Germaine (Chaloux) Deschaine of Higganum, CT. She was born and raised in Higganum, CT. Rita attended Putnam Catholic Academy in Putnam, CT, and Fisher Junior College in Boston, MA. In 1964, she met and married her soulmate, Joseph Clarence Madore, known as “Stretch” to all. Over the course of their nearly 57 years of marriage, they lived in a variety of New England towns, including Higganum, CT; Portland, CT; Fairfield, CT; Ledyard, CT; East Greenwich, RI; and Cumberland Foreside, ME, before retiring in North Conway, NH, in 2011. Rita and Stretch personally planned and oversaw the remodeling of their home in N. Conway. Rita was an integral part of the project including personally painting of all walls in their updated home. Rita's greatest joy was her family. She and Stretch raised three children, and she dedicated herself to their care. She was a constant support to Stretch in his banking career. As her children grew, she reentered the workforce, working in the banking industry and later overseeing medical records for several doctors in southern Maine. Rita’s life was guided by her deep faith in God and a strong belief in the importance of family and friends. She had a knack for decorating her home for every season and making everyone feel welcome. Not to mention, she was always ready to take out her pom poms and cheer for you. Her ability to connect with others simply by asking their names was a genuine skill she modeled for others. Her laugh and smile enriched all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved music, crafts, knitting, reading, playing Words with Friends, and card games. Rita was an amazing cook, and her entire family will miss the many gatherings that always included good food and family visits. Rita was active with community programs, including holding leadership roles with the Fairfield Junior Women’s Club, serving as a Girl Scout leader, and religious school teacher. Rita was a woman of faith and an active member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in N. Conway. That faith was celebrated in 2009 when Rita and Stretch visited Rome and took a side trip to Assisi and Orvieto. Rita will be greatly missed by her surviving family members, daughter Michele and husband Mark Boillotat from Arlington, TX, and their children: Emma Boillotat and fiance Javier Sanchez of Denver, CO, Jenna and Josh Upson of Stowe, VT and Jack Boillotat of Charlotte, NC; son Brian and his wife Amanda (Kendall) Madore from Fishers, IN, and their daughters Bethany and Delaney Madore; and son Benjamin and Suzanne (Kiertianis) Madore of Saco, ME. She leaves behind her husband, Stretch Madore, and Stretch’s large family of four brothers, one sister and their spouses, and 20 nieces and nephews and their families. She will also be missed by her grand-pups, great grand-pups, and a great grand-kitten. Arrangements were made through Furber Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A viewing to honor Rita's memory will be held on Thursday, May 30, from 4 – 6 pm at Furber Funeral Home in N. Conway. A Memorial Mass will follow on Friday, May 31, at 11 am at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in N. Conway, with burial at the Our Lady of the Mountain Cemetery in N. Conway. In lieu of flowers, Rita’s family suggests donations to some of her favorite charities: Jen’s Friends or Visiting Nurse Home Care and Hospice of Carroll County and Western Maine.
