After her diagnosis of lung cancer in November 2023, Mary Jane fought relentlessly for six hard months against the disease. She will be remembered for her incredible resilience, consideration for others and joyful demeanor during this challenging time. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mary Jane was born to Elinor and Raymond Gormley on December 26,1953 at Brockton Hospital in Brockton, MA. Mary Jane grew up in Brockton, moved to Amherst for college, then off to many places including Charlottesville, VA, Newmarket, NH, Spartanburg, SC, and settled in North Conway, NH. Mary Jane was a natural athlete who excelled on the Brockton High track team, setting the state record for the mile. She graduated from UMass Amherst in 1975 with a degree in Communication Sciences, and went on to pursue roles in speech therapy and education. She loved reading and gardening, and was simply the friendliest person you could ever meet. She was active in the community raising her two children, volunteering in literacy programs and working in education. She enjoyed spending time on Kezar Lake, laughing with her sisters on the beaches of Cape Cod and Maine, and visiting with loved ones at the Lobster Trap. She would say her biggest accomplishment, and pride and joy, were her children, Brian and Sara. They were her world.
