Martha Elaine (Webber) Pedersen, 78, of North Conway, New Hampshire left this life the way she lived her life, on her own terms, with her family by her side. Martha faced colon cancer with courage; she lived steadfast in her home, where she passed away peacefully, seeing the autumn trees and sky of the place she loved. Martha was born on June 8, 1945, to Leland and Eleanor Webber (Toby), of Marblehead, Massachusetts. She grew up in Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1963. Martha went to Northeastern university, where she completed her studies to launch a career in providing health care as an x-ray technology professional. Northeastern is also where Martha met her future husband, Ralph Pedersen, who was himself studying in the same field. Martha and Ralph married, started their careers, bought a house in West Bridgewater, MA, made close friends, and raised two daughters, Sarah and Johanna. After her time at Boston City Hospital, Martha moved to the Bridgewater Medical Center where she devoted many years to creating and developing the mammography department. In retirement, Martha and Ralph were able to move to North Conway, NH, enjoying the mountain views from their new home and enjoying the wildlife in their yard. Martha remained engaged in her new community, working and volunteering for many years at Pope Memorial Library. Martha loved nature and wildlife, and she loved her pets. She was a lifelong supporter of animal welfare, supporting local animal shelters; she rescued many cats over the years, including many who were struggling to find placement, providing a loving home for them with Ralph. Martha was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Ann, Mary Jean, and her brother Lee. She is survived by her siblings John Webber and Kathleen Hoffman, her husband of 57 years, Ralph Pedersen, her daughters, Sarah Pedersen-Faria and her husband Scott Faria of West Gardiner, Maine, Johanna Boucher and her husband Richard Boucher of Medway, Massachusetts, and two beloved grandchildren, Sophia Boucher, and Elijah Faria. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Conway Area Humane Society, 223 E Main St, Conway, NH 03818 or Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, 1389 Bridgton Rd, Fryeburg, ME 04037.
