Lyman D. Kenison, 92, of Freedom died Sunday October 21, 2012 at the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro. Born in Jefferson, the son of D. Ona and Marion (Draper) Kenison, he attended school in Jefferson, Warren and graduated from Tilton Prep School. In 1941 he married T. Phyllis Glass and moved to Concord where he worked for Lincoln Furniture Co. He also worked as a machinist on the B&M railroad repairing steam locomotives and some of the first Diesel's that hauled troops through NH headed overseas during World War II.
Mr. Kenison owned and operated a carpet store in Exeter for 24 years. After retirement he worked as a salesman for Conway Furniture Co. for nine years and on maintenance, as a carpenter, at Camp Huckins in Freedom for 22 seasons. He and his wife, T. Phyllis Kenison bought their house on Ossipee Lake in Freedom in 1961 and have been full time residents since 1980 and have spent 16 winters in Cortez, FL.
Lyman was a Past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows and an officer of Star in the East Masonic Lodge of Exeter. A member of Bektash Shrine in Concord and a 32 degree Scottish Rite mason and a former member of Chichester Grange.
He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and woodworking.
He served as a trustee and head usher for the First Christian Church of Freedom.
The family includes his wife, T. Phyllis Kenison of Freedom; two sons, Alan A. Kenison and Wayne Kenison, both of Berlin and 14 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Lyman D. Kenison, Jr. in 1991.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 26, 2012 at 3 p.m. in the First Christian Church of Freedom in Freedom with the Rev. Lawrence Wogman, pastor, officiating. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
