On September 5, 2010, the Reverend Louis A. Soucey was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 92 years old.
Father Soucey was born on April 11, 1918 in St. Elethere, Quebec, Canada and was ordained a priest on February 9, 1974 by the Most Reverend Ernest J. Primeau, S.T.D., sixth Bishop of Manchester, at Saint Cecilia Church in Wolfeboro. Father Soucey studied at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Boston, MA and then later in life completed his ecclesiastical studies at Pope John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, MA.
Rev. Soucey was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of North Conway American Legion Post # 95 in North Conway.
Father Soucey was assigned as associate pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Hampton in February of 1974 and then as associate pastor of Saint Patrick Parish in Milford in March of 1974. From December, 1975 to January of 1976 Father Soucey served as Administrator of Saint Patrick, Milford. In June of 1980 he was assigned as associate pastor of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, North Conway until his retirement in 1990. He continued to serve as a senior priest there until he assumed residence at Bishop Peterson Residence in Manchester in 2005. Prior to becoming an ordained priest he was a registered pharmacist and owned and operated Toby's Pharmacy in Wolfeboro from 1951 to 1970.
The family includes his son, James L. Soucey and his wife Debbie of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Leo P. Soucy of Hallowell, ME and Joseph F. Soucy of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Anne Soucey, in 1968; his wife, Eleanor W. Soucey, in 1969 and four brothers and three sisters.
