Loretta Cummings Obituary

Loretta May Willis Cummings

July 4, 1923 - April 14, 2010

Freedom- Loretta peacefully left the earth on April 14, 2010 after a brief hospitalization. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in the Springfield, MA area for many years. It was in Springfield that she met the love of her life, Richard Castledine Cummings, to whom she was married for 62 years. After raising their children in East Longmeadow, MA and Hampstead, NH they retired to Freedom in 1984 and began to enjoy life on the Ossipee River.

Her family was extremely important to her. She loved her four grandchildren and always enjoyed baking cookies and playing games with them. Loretta embraced the art of written correspondence and was an avid reader. She kept a diary since the age of thirteen and always wanted her guests to sign her guestbook. She was a talented seamstress and made quilts for all her grandchildren. Their house "Richlore" always displayed her hand sewn flag for each season or holiday. Loretta and Dick enjoyed the excitement of travel, the joy of square dancing and the pleasure of each others company. In her later years she loved to sit on her deck with her dog Lovey and view the river and Green Mountain. Loretta will be remembered as a loving wife, a wonderful mother, a very special grandmother, a friend to many and a true lady.

Loretta leaves her daughter, Robin and son-in-law Leonard Waters (of Center Conway) and their children Kathryn and Benjamin and his fiancée Bethany Ritter; her son, Roger and daughter-in-law Candace Cummings (of Greensboro, NC) and their children Carolyn and her husband Matthew Addison and Julia Cummings and her fiancé Steven Armbruster; a brother, Douglas Willis and his wife, Barbara. She also leaves countless friends and loved ones gathered over her long and happy life.

The family is especially appreciative of the wonderful support from all her friends in Freedom. In place of flowers, con
