Obituary: John G. Pandora John G. Pandora, 95, of Brownfield, Maine, passed away on March 25, 2026. John’s roots in the community ran deep; as a teenager, he served as a volunteer firefighter during the Great Brownfield Fire of 1947. His life of service continued in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Shannon (DM-25) from 1949 to 1952. This began a lifelong passion for travel that saw him visit 35 states, including Hawaii and Alaska, and enjoy several cruises throughout his later years. A dedicated member of the community, John was a lifetime member of the Tin Can Sailors and American Legion Post 95 in North Conway, NH, where he served as Finance Officer and Past Department Commander. He was frequently involved in local Memorial Day ceremonies. He was also a fixture at local Veterans Day ceremonies and parades, never missing an opportunity to honor his fellow veterans. He was a member of both the Masons and the Elks in North Conway. Notably, John helped create and organize the American Legion Christmas dinners, an initiative he remained involved with for over 30 years since its start in 1983. John was predeceased by his fiancée and companion, June R. Waltz, in March 2026. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Karen (Flint) Pandora, in April 2020. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn Ina (Metcalf) Pandora, whom he married in 1951. They shared 40 years of marriage until her passing in February 1991. This is where they started their large family tree with three sons: Paul G. Pandora and his wife Jamie, and their five children. David S. Pandora and his wife Joanne, and their two children. Peter M. Pandora and his wife Christina, and their five children. John also leaves behind many great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Norma of Brownfield and Margaret of North Carolina. John was always ready to share a story about his travels or his time at sea, and he will be remembered by those who knew him for his long, well-lived life.
