Hope Harriman Birkbeck, 69, passed away on May 25, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway. She was born on October 12, 1942 in North Lovell. Maine to Wilbert F. (Shorty) and Hallie (McKeen) Harriman.
Through grade eight, she attended a one-room school in North Lovell, and in 1960 she graduated from Fryeburg Academy. In 1964, and again in 1973, she was a graduate of the University of Maine, Gorham Campus.
Hope moved to the Mount Washington Valley in the summer of 1964 and for thirty-six years she was a teacher at the Jackson Grammar School in Jackson, NH, retiring in June of 2000.
She was an avid sportsperson through her life. During her school years she played team sports, and later continued to enjoy tennis, Alpine and Nordic skiing, swimming, hunting and fishing. Before his passing, she also enjoyed traveling with her husband Bill all over the continental United States for business and pleasure. They also took several trips to Nova Scotia, Canada, for salmon fishing.
Hope was a member of the Anna Stickney Chapter, DAR, NH Retired Educators' Association, MWV Retired Teachers" Association, Carroll County Fish, Game and Shooting Club and the NRA.
The family includes her stepson, Corey Birkbeck and his wife Carrie of Conway; three nephews, David Harriman of Mesa, AZ, Michael Harriman of Greenfield, MA and Nathan Harriman of Scituate, MA and two nieces, Cynthia (Harriman) Harbage of Norway, ME and Cathryn (Harriman) Stanley and her husband Glynne of Boxford, MA.
She was predeceased by her husband of thirty years, William W. "Bill" Birkbeck, in 2005. her parents and two brothers, Robert Harriman of Agawam, MA and David Harriman of Gorham, ME.
Funeral Services will be held Friday June 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Conway Village Congregational Church in Conway with the Rev. Martell Spagnolo, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Gilman Cemetery in Madison. There will be no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the
