Gail A. Monet age 62, passed away after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. The oldest child of the eight children of Donald and Virginia Monaghan, she is survived by her best friend, devoted husband and cribbage partner, Larry Monet of Madison, NH.
Gail is best known as the beloved and respected Register of the Probate Division in the Carroll County Circuit Court system. She held this position since her appointment on December 1, 1997 and touched many lives, helping families, children, parents and lawyers through the emotional and confusing journey settling estates, facilitating adoptions, guardianships and helping grieving families cope with the death of loved ones. She loved being the Register and loved working with people guiding them through the probate process. She loved outreach work and addressed many groups about the probate system. She was a frequent speaker at the Gibson Center in North Conway and was a valued resource for social service workers, nursing homes, attorneys and funeral directors. Her compassion and willingness to help was her cornerstone. She enjoyed and maintained many friendships as a result of her work.
Gail arrived in New Hampshire in 1983after working in Boston, Massachusetts at the Bureau of Census for five years. Intending to retire here, although too young, she nevertheless applied for and was hired by the late Carroll County Attorney William D. Paine II as the first paralegal in the County Attorney's Office. While there she spearheaded the collection of child support payments and ran that office until William D. Paine II became the Judge of the Conway District Court in 1990. She then went to work at the law firm of Sager, Sager, Wunder & Dupree as a paralegal and credits Lorraine Sager for her development as a probate expert.
