Fortin Jacqueline Obituary

Dr. Jacqueline Fortin died at the age of 79 on August 21, 2012 in her home in Silver Lake NH. Jacqueline was born in Boston Massachusetts on December 11, 1932, the daughter of John and Margaret Dobson. She grew up in South Attleboro, Mass. attending Sacred Heart Academy and Roger Williams School of Nursing before marrying William Fortin of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She and William moved to Cumberland, Rhode Island where they raised their three sons. During that time, she and her family frequently traveled to Silver Lake, NH to ski and spend much of their time enjoying the lake and outdoors activities. Jacque received a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island, a master's from Boston College and a doctorate from Boston University prior to becoming a professor at the University of Rhode Island. She taught at URI from 1975 to 2000, during which she was instrumental in establishing the school's nursing doctoral program in 1985. Jacque served in many capacities at the university and her area of primary research was in postoperative pain. After retirement, she and her husband Bill became full time residents of Silver Lake to enjoy the area they had come to love and the many friends they had made over the years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother sharing her many gifts in life through her compassionate nature. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William D. Fortin, currently living at their home in Silver Lake, NH and their three children; Richard Fortin and his wife Jane of Silver Lake NH, Steven Fortin of Conway, NH and Douglas Fortin of Belfast, Maine. She is also survived by her six grand children Liam, Garrett, Kristen, Melisa, Colin and Nicholas.
A private service with the family is planned and donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
