Ernest J. “Ernie” Menard Ernest J. Menard (Ernie), 96, a longtime resident of Bartlett, NH, formerly of Wiscasset and East Boothbay, ME and Whitman and Abington, MA, died on Dec. 14, 2023 while residing at Mineral Springs in North Conway, NH, where he had been a resident for the past several years. He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Braga Menard, who passed away in 2015. Ernie is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Ed Menard and Dr. Lori Bartels, and Tom and Topher Menard; his granddaughter and her husband, Danni and Steve Mayclin; and his sister Helen McCarthy. Ernie grew up in Abington, MA in a household with five siblings, his parents and grandparents, then attended Catholic Seminary for 7 years. He joined the Air Force in 1950 where he served during the Korean War as a Russian translator after attending Army Language School in Monterey, CA. Ernie and his wife Joan owned and operated Murray Hill Market in East Boothbay, ME for several years in the 1970’s after a decades-long career working for Tedeschi’s / Angelo’s supermarkets in MA, where they met. He spent many enjoyable years working at the Eagle Mountain House where he was lovingly known as the Old Man of the Eagle until his retirement. He loved to laugh, share stories about his life, socialize and, in his younger years enjoyed outdoor activities, especially camping, hiking, swimming and fishing. His hobbies were photography and stamp and coin collecting. Oh, and eating! Ernie is dearly missed by his family and friends and will be cherished and remembered in our hearts always. Ernie’s life will be celebrated and commemorated in May 2024 at The Madison Church, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bartlett.
