Obituary

Obituary for Ellen J. Curtis: On September 7, 2023, Ellen J. Curtis (King) of Crystal River, Florida and Conway, NH, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center due to Complications from a fall causing a Brain Injury that she endured this past January 2023. Born in North Conway at The Memorial Hospital, to the Late Francis X. King and the Late Fay T. King (Thurston) on March 8, 1952. Most of her youth was spent in Fryeburg, Maine until her mother decided that Conway would be the town, she wanted her and her brother Richard to grow up. She graduated Kennett High School in 1970, where she went on and married her high school sweetheart, the Late Stanley S. Tabor, right after high school graduation. They had two children, her son Scott, and her daughter Catherine. She loved being mother to her children and cherished every moment with them. In 1994, she met and married the love of her life (her soulmate), the Late Francis W. Curtis, Jr. (Snuffy) who predeceased her just a month ago, August 9, 2023. Ellen worked most of her life here in the Mt Washington Valley at several Businesses, until 2004 ending at The Echo Group in Conway. She and her Late Husband Snuffy, decided to make the move to Sunny Florida as they were not fond of shoveling snow any longer. Living in “The Villages” for a few years, they both enjoyed the game of golf, driving around in their Golf Cart everywhere however, they were missing the country life setting! In 2008, they decided to move out of the city, and move an hour north to Citrus Springs, FL. They enjoyed seeing multiple wild animals scrolling through their back yard. However, in 2019 they decided to sell this home and move into a 55 and older community, called “Crystal River Village”. This is where they wanted easy living with a community that welcomed them with open arms. Ellen joined the Board of Crystal River Village as a secretary where she loved being a part of her community. She brought joy and support to everyone she met, even having several togethers on her front porch with the “Ladies” (some gentlemen too). She would knock on stranger’s doors just to say Hi, and/or invite them to any community event that was currently going on. In 2022, she and her husband decided that they missed the Valley and wanted to become “Snowbirds” so that she and Frank could enjoy their family for at least part of every year. After moving them into their new home (June) in Lamplighters, Frank became ill and needed to be hospitalized in the first week of August. He then passed away and Ellen decided that she did not want to live alone and moved into the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Wayne. She will be dearly missed by her surviving Uncle James Thurston wife Sharon of Albany, NH, her brother, Richard King wife Laura of Bradford, NH, her son Scott L. Tabor, wife Karen of Conway, NH, her daughter, Catherine J. McDonald husband Wayne Center Conway, NH, Stepson Braden Liatris wife Madeline of Portland, ME, Granddaughter Caitlyn J. (Howard) Tellez husband Johnny of Ocala, FL and she got to meet and hold her first Great Grandchild in July, John Parker (JP) Tellez. She was so proud to be called “GG” for Great Gram. Her sister-in-law’s; Charlene Coakley husband Bobby of Medford, MA and Kathleen Curtis of Center Conway, NH. She had several cousins, nieces, and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life on September 23, 11am – 2pm, at the home of her daughter, Cathy McDonald of 866 Eastman Road, Center Conway, NH. If you would like to mail a card, please send it to her daughter’s address.
