Edward Francis McCormack, 93 died peacefully in his home in Brownfield, ME. He was born in Weymouth, MA, son of John Francis and Ella Frances (Foley) and grew up in Scituate, MA, where he lived until moving to Brownfield in 1986.
He attended Scituate High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943where he proudly served as a EOC (Chief Equipment Operator) for three Naval Seabee Battalions MCB 11, MCB12 and 123NCB. He was in the Philippine Islands during WW II, Alaska during the Korean War and in Vietnam for the Vietnam Conflict where he turned the age of 50. He was proud to have his son Michael serving as his corpsman while they both served in Vietnam. He was awarded the Korean Medal of Gallantry, while attached to a Unit of the Blue Dragon Division of the Korean Marine Corps in Vietnam. He continued his service with the Naval Reserve and retired in the early 1970s. In 1986 he retired from Anderson Fuel of North Scituate, MA, as a pipe fitter for over 25 years. Since a young man he had a passion for car racing. He was fortunate to be able to pursue this passion with his three sons in their careers involved with the Formula One and Indy Car Series events. His "fix it" skills were quickly known upon his move to his neighborhood in Brownfield. He had the incredible ability to be able to fix anything. He was often found at the Eaton Village Store helping his daughter put something back together.
He was a member of the VFW Satuit Post 3169, Scituate, MA and a member of the Fairbanks Elks Lodge # 1551 of Fairbanks, Alaska for 61 years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years or as he called her "his girl, Ginny" (Virginia Ellen Thompson) and his 4 children, Jack McCormack of Laguna Niguel, CA and his wife Barbara, Michael McCormack of Indianapolis, IN and his partner Martha, Dennis McCormack of Scituate, MA and his wife Felicia and Colleen McCormack-Lane of Eaton, NH and her husband Thomas. He was predeceased by his two grandchildren, Mark Francis McCormack of San Jo
