Donald Marks Obituary

Donald "Don" William Marks, 78, of Madison, NH entered eternal rest on Friday, December 13th, 2024, in North Conway, NH after a long battle with Parkinson's and Dementia. Born July 25, 1946, Don was son to Harold Marks and Vera (Baldwin) Marks. Donald was the oldest of four brothers growing up in Stratford, CT. A graduate of Bunnell High School in 1964, Don went on to Nichols College where he studied Forestry and graduated in 1968. His years at college forged his love of the outdoors and Woodsman's games, competing in bucksaw, crosscut saw standing block chop. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army earning rank of Sergeant and awarded most notably the Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal -2 Star, and Army Commendation Medal. After leaving the military Don joined the United States Forest Service working in California, Michigan and lastly found his final post in the White Mountains of NH as a Forest Ranger. Madison, NH became home for Don where he built his house and spent all free time outdoors. It was 1993, Don found love and married Margaret "Peg" Bristol and became stepfather to her three daughters. Don is predeceased by his wife Peg (Bristol) Marks in 2018, parents Harold and Vera Marks, brother Brian Marks, nephew Jonathan Marks. Don is survived by brothers Gary Marks (Debra) of Connecticut and Lee Marks of New Jersey, Sister-in-law Lois Marks of Wisconsin, Stepdaughters Darcy Cassin (Ocala, Fl), Shayna Miller (Epsom, NH), and Kayla Roper (Thorton, NH), along with many cousins, nephews and nieces. Donald was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in North Conway, NH. Faith and community were important to Don and although not the most outgoing his presence will be missed by all that knew him. A funeral service will be held at Furber Funeral Home 2925 White Mountain Highway, North Conway, NH 03860 Saturday, December 28th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
