Dexter Leroy Schaffner Jr., 71, passed away on April 10, 2025, in Madison, New Hampshire. Born on November 12, 1953, in Malden, Massachusetts, Dexter lived a life marked by curiosity, adventure, and deep connections with those around him. Dexter was the beloved child of the late Dexter Leroy Schaffner Sr. and Florence Harriet Brock. A devoted parent and family member, Dexter is remembered with love by their son Cameron; daughter Samantha; daughter-in-law Christine; and son-in-law Lucas. Their presence will also be deeply missed by their brother Walter; sister-in-law Verna; sister Carol; brother-in-law Ken;sister Janice; nieces Megan, Caitlin, and Jackie; nephews Brandon and DJ; and aunt Shirley. Known for their adventurous spirit, Dexter had a lifelong passion for trains, motorcycles, and gold mining. Whether exploring scenic routes, tinkering with his model railroad, or digging and crushing rocks in the desert, he found joy in the rhythm of movement and the freedom of the open road. Their love of travel took them to new places near and far, always seeking discovery and connection along the way as well as witnessing breathtaking spectacles like the eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington. He was a familiar presence at Bike Week in Laconia, New Hampshire. Dexter was well-traveled living in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Washington, and Oregon. Dexter was not only a best friend to several but also a good friend to many. Their warmth, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was truly loved by all who crossed their path. Arrangements were made through Furber Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date to honor Dexter’s memory in the spirit he lived—joyfully, openly, and surrounded by those who cared for him.
