It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of David (Dave) Anthony Shamberger, 80, of Chocorua, on September 29, 2025 in Wolfeboro. Born In Lynn MA to the late Harry and Rose (Rubinowski) Shamberger, David grew up and attended Lynn schools, graduating from Classical High School in 1962. Always a worker, he started young selling newspapers and shining shoes. After graduation, he went on to work in manufacturing, In 1973 he and two good friends bought three adjoining lots in White Lake Estates and helped each other build their vacation homes. David’s love of the country was strong-he won a poetry award for his poem “Up Country”. Moving to Tamworth in July 1983, he was able to fulfill a dream. That Sunday after the move, he took a chair (and a beer) and walked out to Rt16 and sat – waving to those driving home who were not as blessed as he considered himself to be able to finally call the north country home. After moving to New Hampshire, David worked nights at the Carroll County House of Corrections while starting up his contracting business, building and remodeling homes in White Lake Estates, many times with his lifelong friend Lou Perullo. He also worked with another friend, Marty Furnbach until he was asked to apply at Nordic Village where he found his dream job. Shortly after starting at Nordic, he became property manager at Nestlenook Inn – a property he loved and took great pride in keeping beautiful. Due to health reasons, he retired in 2008 along with his beloved coworker –his border collie, Claire. After retirement, he was asked to help delivering Meals on Wheels for the Gibson Center and he was thrilled to be helping his neighbors in the Madison area. When driving became difficult, he was again asked to help at the congregate meal at Silver Lake Landing and was proud to be the Gibson Center Volunteer of the year in 2013. David loved sports. In high school he excelled in football and played baseball, hockey and boxed. He loved to fish in the summer (Duncan Lake was his favorite spot) and to hunt in the fall. He also loved to golf all over New England and belonged to the Men’s twilight league at Indian Mound. He was an avid fan of the Boston sports teams. Sunday afternoons were a tradition. There were always special appetizers along with his favorite special beverage-Great Western Champagne and either a Patriots or a Red Sox game on the TV. David never went anywhere without his camera. He loved taking pictures, especially of the wildlife that would wander through his field. A devout Catholic, David was honored and humbled to be asked to become a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of the Mountains church. He served at Sunday Mass and visited with the homebound after Mass. He also belonged to the Men of St, Joseph, in Center Ossipee. Predeceased by his parents and his brother Harry and his wife Nora, David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda, daughter Laura (Jeff) of Rochester NH, daughter Lisa (Pete) of Thompsons Station TN, and son David (Colleen) of Saratoga Springs, NY, grandchildren Matthew Chidester, Jonathan Young, Michael Young, Matthew Shamberger, Kate Shamberger and Allie Shamberger. He is also survived by his sister Rose (Roy) of Port Charlotte FL, brother John (Kandy) of Georgetown MA, brother-in-law Charles Rehal of Beverly MA and sister-in-law Margie Marcheterre of Salem MA, and many nieces and nephews and their children. The family wants to thank all the healthcare workers who helped David through the years. The VNA of Carroll County, Saco River Medical Group, especially Emily Beaulieu and her staff, who were always there for David, the staff at Wolfeboro Bay, whose loving care in David’s last days was such a comfort to David and Linda. And, lastly, everyone at the Mt Washington Valley Adult Day Center who made the world of difference in David’s life every day for the last 3 years. To quote him when asked what he liked about the center (which he called camp) he said everything! Should you want to remember David, please consider a donation to this wonderful facility. Visiting hours will be Monday October 6, 2025 from 4-6PM at Furber & White Funeral Home, 2925 White Mountain Highway, North Conway NH. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday October 7, at 11AM at Our Lady of the Mountains Church, 2905 White Mountain Highway, North Conway. Burial will follow in the Chocorua Cemetery, Deer Hill Rd., Chocorua
