Cynthia Briggs Obituary

Cynthia Benvie Falconer Briggs December 31, 1934 – October 17, 2025 It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cynthia Benvie Falconer Briggs, a loving wife, mother, friend and a cherished member of the Briggs family, at the age of 90. A celebration of life will be held on November 16, 2025, from 2 pm until 5 pm at Delaney’s Hole in the Wall in North Conway. Cynthia was born in Boston, MA to Kenneth and Muriel Cameron Falconer. She grew up in Hingham, MA and later in Northfield, MA where she attended Northfield School for Girls. After attending Northfield School for Girls, she continued her education at Smith College in Amherst, MA. She later returned to her studies to obtain her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire. Cynthia met Conrad Briggs while they were both working at Stonehurst Manor in North Conway. They were married on February 16, 1955, beginning a partnership that lasted nearly 70 years. After the birth of their first child, Nancy-Gail, they managed and soon bought the Cranmore Inn in North Conway, where their two sons, Douglas (born 1957) and Steven (born 1963), were later born. Cynthia was a passionate gardener. She established and maintained the gardens at the Inn until its sale in 1974 and later at the Homestead Restaurant, which she and Conrad operated from 1974 through 1994. Her gardens brought her great pleasure at the Locust Hill Bed & Breakfast as well. She and Conrad operated the B&B into the 2010s. Over decades, she dedicated herself to local government, serving on the Conway Board of Selectmen, the Planning Board, the Town Budget Committee, and the School Board. She served as President of the NHMA Property-Liability Insurance Trust, a non-profit insurance pool for NH’s local governments. She was a member of the Citizens Advisory Task Force and Citizens Design Review Committee which worked for the development of the North South Road. She was also deeply involved in the community non-profits, serving on the boards of the Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association (where she was President), the North Conway Village Association Committee, Carroll County Mental Health, and the Pequawket Foundation. Cynthia is survived by her children Nancy-Gail Peterson, Douglas Briggs and Steven Briggs. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Conrad. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Merriman House for their loving care and support during Cynthia’s time there. Also, thanks to the staff at Mineral Springs for their care during her final days.
