Charlotte Salzstein Obituary

Charlotte Suzanne Salzstein, born Charlotte Suzanne Decker / Zeff on March 27, 1943, in Bronx, NY, passed away on February 11, 2024, at the age of 80 in Portland, Maine. She was the daughter of Mollie Decker and the loving mother of Rebe, Mark, and Denise. Sadly, she was predeceased by her daughter, Alicia. Charlotte was a remarkable woman who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Charlotte had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests. She had a deep love for a great, hot cup of black coffee, which she enjoyed sharing with her daughter Rebe from a young age. Her son Mark cherished the memories of her visits and the delicious Matzoh Ball Soup she would make. As a nurse, Charlotte dedicated herself to her profession while simultaneously raising four children. Her determination and strength were evident as she completed her degree while caring for her family, often taking Denise to her classes. Charlotte's passion for cooking was evident in the many recipes she shared, including her famous sauce, matzoh ball soup, chopped liver, and chocolate swirl coffee cake. She had a curious palate and loved sampling various dishes whenever she dined out. Charlotte also passed down her Yiddish heritage through conversations with her grandmother, Mollie.

Aside from her culinary talents, Charlotte had a deep love for animals. Her furry friends, including a posse of cats and her beloved Siberian Husky named Luna, held a special place in her heart. She also adored her grandchildren, Kendal, Jared, and Caeli, and cherished spending time with them, whether it was taking them out for lunch or engaging in lengthy phone conversations. Charlotte considered her grandchildren's friends as her own and valued the friendships she formed throughout her life.

A service to honor Charlotte's life will be held on February 16, 2024, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, at the Furber Funeral Home located at 2925 White Mountain Hwy, North Conway, NH. Following the service, a dinner will be held at The White Mountain Hotel in North Conway, NH. In the spring, Charlotte will be laid to rest in Fryeburg, Maine. Additionally, a Celebration of Life dinner will take place in Cornwall, NY, also in the spring.

In memory of Charlotte, the family kindly requests that any contributions be made to your local animal shelter in lieu of flowers. Charlotte's love for animals was unwavering, and she would have been grateful for any support given to these organizations.

Charlotte Suzanne Salzstein was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
