Bettina Peters, 65, of Center Conway passed October 6, 2010 at her home in Center Conway. She was born February 22 1945 in Woodsville, NH, the daughter of John B. and Virginia (Bradway) Smith. She had a wonderful life growing up on the family dairy farm in South Newbury, VT. With her sisters and brother, activities were "home made" - swimming in the brook, playing dress - up in the attic, card games with grandmother Ma Pix, back and forth with the neighboring Brock family, sliding down the meadow road, picking berries in the pasture, practicing piano and violin.
Her life-long quest for knowledge and love of reading was first nurtured by her family and teachers at Newbury Town Central School. She graduated with honors from Newbury High School in 1963. After attending the University of Vermont for two years she transferred to the Chandler School for Women in Boston graduating in 1966. She then worked and lived in Burlington, VT with her dear friends Cynthia, Linda, Brenda, and Velma for several years before her marriage to Dennis Peters in 1971.
After their marriage, Dennis and Betty lived in Bradford, Randolph, and Moretown, VT. Then moved to Amherst, NH. In 1979 they moved to Center Conway, NH. Betty worked in retail sales and as a volunteer in Conway Elementary schools. She then worked for 20 years at Pine Tree Elementary School until her health forced her to retire.
There was a common thread that wove through most of Betty's life - it was school. As a child she could hardly wait to start 1st grade and would tease constantly to go with her older sister and did so many times. In high school she played basketball, softball as well as participating in drama, chorus, and National Honor Society. Her favorite classes were Creative Writing and Latin. She was selected to represent Vermont at the 1961 National Youth Science Foundation at Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. She also attended Vermont Girls State and received the
