Arthur Hoppe Chisholm, 94, of Effingham,NH, died peacefully on November 21st following a brief illness.
Arthur was born in Hopbottom, PA, the son of Herbert and Blanche Chisholm. Arthur and his wife, Ruth, lived in Lynn, Mass. most of their lives on Arthur St. where they brought up their four children; Carolyn, Janet, Susan and Arthur.
He was a decorated WWII veteran (Dec. '43-Jan.'46) and earned the Purple Heart. After the war, he worked at the GE (Lynn, Mass.) and retired after 37 years. He could, and did build and fix anything. Arthur and Ruth moved to Effingham 11 years ago to the place where Arthur built their summer home in 1954.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Freedom. Arthur's beloved wife, Ruth of 69 years passed September 2009. In the past year, he has been residing with his family in Bartlett, NH. He is also predeceased by his first child, Raymond, who died as an infant; his brother Ellis Chisholm and sister, Joyce Butkus.
Arthur leaves behind a son, Arthur Herbert Chisholm, wife Linda, of Bartlett; three daughters, Carolyn Collins and Janet Chisholm, both of Lynn, Mass., Susan Cannady of Orange, Ca., a sister, Wanda (Peg) Smith of Lebanon, Ohio; seven grandchildren Sherri Lindberg, Laurie Toscano, Daniel Collins, Keri Ensminger, Arthur Chisholm Jr., Joshua Chisholm, Brian Cannady; and six great grandchildren, Isabella and Emily Toscano, Colin Ensminger, Lilly Chisholm, Niklas Lindberg and very soon to follow, Brittney Bossidy.
Visiting hours will be Friday, November 26, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Funeral services will be held on November 27, 2010 at 1100 a.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Donald F. Derse, officiating. Burial will be in Effingham Falls Cemetery in Effingham after the services.
