Arlene McCarthy Obituary


Arlene M. McCarthy, 84, of Conway went home to be with the Lord and her parents on May 11, 2012. She passed peacefully with her loved ones by her side.
She graduated from Kennett High School in Conway and loved all of her friends and Conway. She was proud of her children and grandchildren.
Arlene worked at the former Heel Mill and Conway Café, both in Conway, She ran "The Annex" rooming house for years in Conway and later became an excellent chef and operated the Willey House restaurant and gift shop in Crawford Notch with the help of her dear husband, Charlie. She wrote three books about her mother and life in Passaconaway and one with poems and short stories. Mrs. McCarthy was very patriotic and a member of the Emblem Club, Eastern Star and Ralph Shirley American Legion Post # 46 Ladies Auxiliary in Conway.
Mrs. McCarthy was an avid skier and had been a member of the Mt. Cranmore Ski Patrol in North Conway many years ago.
Arlene started losing her sight at the young age of 28, but she never felt sorry for herself. Some people never knew that for the last 15 years she was blind.
She is survived by her dedicated husband Charles T. McCarthy of Conway; a son, Robert D. Campbell, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Wolfeboro; a daughter, Bonnie C. Kimball and her husband Lloyd of Conway; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Chesley of Albany; a brother, Dwight McLellan of Conway; six step-children, Thomas McCarthy of Rye, Steven McCarthy of South Carolina, Katie McCarthy of Effingham, Peter McCarthy of Greenville, South Carolina; Susan Ray of Rye and Michael McCarthy of Woods Hole, MA and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in the Conway Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
