Allan Stanley, 73, of Redstone, NH died Thursday evening May 27, 2010 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. He was born December 27, 1936 in Boston, MA, the son of Gerald and Hazel (Morway) Stanley.
Allan was a lifelong resident of Conway. He graduated from Kennett High School in Conway, attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, graduated from Portsmouth Technical Institute and was a self-employed plumber in Redstone for many years.
Allan was a member of the Mt. Washington Lodge # 87 F & AM in North Conway and was a proud Mason for over 24 years. He also attended the brother lodge in Mims, FL and was passionate and prominent in raising funds for the Burns Unit at the Shriners Hospital in Boston.
Mr. Stanley was very involved in community activities; he served as a past volunteer of the Redstone Fire Department, was a member of the sons of the American Legion; was a member of the former Eastern Slope Lodge # 2055 B.P.O.E. in Conway where he called Bingo for several years and was an active associate of the Elks in Titusville, FL.
Most importantly to Allan were his friends whom he cherished and was dedicated. He was an avid sports enthusiast supporting the Red Sox and the Patriots. He enjoyed golf, camping, hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities. A lobster dinner was his epicurean delight. Allan was a member in good standing with the Northern NH Senior Golf League. In his senior years Allan greatly enjoyed his winter excursions to Mims, FL. Allan sometimes became passionately involved in national and state political issues. His dry sense of humor was frequently evident throughout daily activities.
His family includes his son, Peter Stanley of Conway; a twin brother, Arthur Stanley and his wife, Roberta, of Ft. Pierce, FL; a sister, Joan Stanley Van Dorn of Cambridge, MA and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his partner, Jane Learn of Redstone.
Graveside services will be held Saturday June 5, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the Conway Vi
