Benefits for veterans who die at a VA hospital-

  1. Family gets $300 allowance towards cremation or burial.
  2. Family receives $300 allowance if they don’t use national cemetery.
  3. Receives transportation from VA hospital.
  4. Receives transportation to place of interment or services.

 

Benefits for veterans who dies outside a VA hospital-

            Situation # 1
                        VA service connected disability pension

  1. Receives $300 allowance for burial or cremation.
  2. Receives $300 allowance for a plot if they do not use a national cemetery.
  3. If you are service connected, transportation will be paid only if buried in a national cemetery.

Situation #2
            VA Support pension

  1. Receives $300 allowance for burial or cremation.
  2. Receives $300 plot allowance if they don’t use a national cemetery.
  3. No transportation is allowed.

Situation #3
            100% service connected veteran

1. Must have died from service connection. Up to $2,000 is reimbursed to the family for funeral or cremation costs.
